1. Introduction
Welcome to ChatMate!
This is the Privacy Policy of Silver Ring Intelligence Limited ("we," "us," or "our"), the operator of the ChatMate mobile application and related services (collectively, the "App" or "Service"). This Privacy Policy is incorporated into and subject to our Terms of Service.
We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal data you share with us. This Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have regarding your data. By accessing or using the ChatMate App or any of our Services, you signify your agreement to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use the Service.
2. Categories of Personal Data We Collect
The types and scope of personal data we collect depend on how you interact with ChatMate, which features you use, and the choices you make. We collect information from a variety of sources, including data you provide directly to us, data we automatically collect when you use the Service, and data we receive with your consent or authorization. We strive to collect only what is necessary to provide, maintain, and improve our Services, and we are committed to handling your information transparently and responsibly. The categories of personal data we collect are set out below.
2.1 Data You Provide
• Basic Information: When you register for an account, we collect essential details such as your name, gender, date of birth, phone number, and email address. This information is necessary for account creation, identity verification, ensuring you meet the minimum age requirement (18+), and enabling account recovery.
• Social Media-Related Information: If you choose to connect your social media accounts or link third-party profiles, we may receive certain information from those platforms, such as your social account nickname, public profile details, preferences, and friend lists. This helps us personalize your experience and enable social features within the App.
• User-Generated Content (UGC): While using ChatMate, you may create and share content such as text messages, comments, images, videos, and audio recordings. This content is processed to deliver the features you use, enable interaction with other users, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and our community guidelines.
• User-Uploaded Content: When you set up your profile or engage with certain features, you may upload content such as profile pictures, avatars, or other media files. This content is stored and displayed within the App to support your user profile and enhance your experience.
• Usage Data: As you interact with the App, we collect records of your activity, including the features you use, the content you view, your interaction patterns, and basic browsing-related data. This information helps us understand user behavior, optimize the user experience, and improve the overall performance and stability of our Services.
• Payment Information: When you make purchases within ChatMate, your payment details are transmitted directly to and processed by third-party payment service providers. We do not store or have access to your full payment information. However, we retain limited transaction data—such as merchant name, purchase amount, transaction date, and order reference—for financial reconciliation, refund processing, and fraud prevention purposes.
• Third-Party Social Media: If you log in to ChatMate using a third-party social media account (such as Google or Facebook), we may access your public profile information. This information is used solely to authenticate your identity and set up your account. We do not collect or store your social media passwords.
2.2 Data Collected Automatically
• Identification Data: We collect basic device identifiers such as device type, brand and model, screen resolution, and serial number. This information helps us recognize unique devices, support compatibility testing, and ensure the Service functions properly across different platforms.
• Device Information: To optimize your experience and ensure the App runs smoothly, we collect configuration details including your operating system version, browser type and version, and language settings. This allows us to adapt the App's interface, content localization, and performance to your specific environment.
• Region and Language Identification: We collect region and language settings from your device, along with coarse location data derived from your IP address. This information is used solely to provide localized language support, display region-appropriate content, and comply with applicable regional legal requirements. We do not use this data to track your precise location.
• MAC Address: Your device's MAC address may be collected as a technical identifier for fraud prevention, identity verification, and security monitoring purposes. This helps us detect and prevent unauthorized access, multi-account abuse, and other malicious activities.
• Technical Tools: We use cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience, remember your preferences, analyze usage patterns, and improve our Services. These tools help us understand how you interact with the App and enable essential functionality.
• Third-Party App Detection: To enhance your experience, the App may identify whether WhatsApp is present on your device to offer relevant support options, and whether Google Play is installed to ensure updates are delivered securely. No personal data is accessed from these applications.
2.3 Data Collected with Your Permission
Certain features of ChatMate require access to specific permissions on your device. We only request these permissions when you choose to use the corresponding features, and you may withdraw your consent at any time through your device settings.
• Camera and Microphone: Access to your camera and microphone enables video calls, voice chats, and the capture of photos or audio for upload within the App. These permissions are only activated when you initiate a call or use media capture features.
• Photo Album: We request access to your photo album when you choose to upload profile pictures, share images in chats, or save downloaded media to your device. This access can be limited to the specific files you select.
• Clipboard: Clipboard access is triggered only when you perform a "paste" operation, such as entering an invitation code or copying text. We do not read or collect clipboard content in the background.
• Bluetooth: We use Bluetooth access to detect and connect wireless headsets during active calls, ensuring accurate audio routing and optimal call quality.
• Push Notifications: With your permission, we send notifications for new messages, and important account updates. You may opt out of these notifications at any time through your device settings.
• IP Address & Network Status: We collect your IP address and network type (Wi-Fi or mobile data) to diagnose connectivity issues, prevent data loss, and maintain smooth service operation.
• External Storage Access: On certain devices, we request external storage access to save screenshots to your photo album. This access is limited to the specific files you choose to save or share.
3. Our Use of Personal Data
We collect and process your personal data only for specific, legitimate purposes. The primary purposes for which we use your data are set out below.
3.1 To Provide and Maintain the Service
We use your data to create your account, enable core features such as messaging and video chat, and ensure the App functions as intended. This includes processing your login credentials, displaying your profile to other users, and delivering the features you request. Without this processing, we would not be able to provide the Service to you.
3.2 To Improve and Develop Our Services
We analyze information about your usage to better understand how users engage with ChatMate. This helps us identify areas for improvement, fix bugs, enhance performance, and develop new features. Our goal is to continuously refine the user experience based on real-world usage and feedback.
3.3 To Personalize Your Experience
We use information such as your language preferences, region, and usage behavior to tailor content and recommendations to your needs. This includes adapting the App's interface language, recommending displaying content, and providing a more customized experience that aligns with your preferences.
3.4 To Ensure Safety, Security, and Integrity
We process your data to detect and prevent fraudulent activity, unauthorized access, and other harmful behaviors. This includes identity verification, monitoring for suspicious activity, and enforcing our Terms of Service. These measures help us maintain a secure environment for all users.
3.5 To Provide Customer Support
When you contact us with questions, concerns, or technical issues, we use the information you provide—along with relevant account and usage data—to investigate and resolve your inquiry. This enables us to respond effectively and improve our support services.
3.6 To Process Payments
When you make purchases within ChatMate, we use limited transaction data (such as order details and purchase confirmations) to complete your transaction, manage subscriptions, and provide you with the products or services you have purchased. Full payment card details are processed directly by our third-party payment processors and are not stored by us.
3.7 To Comply with Legal Obligations
We may process and retain your data as necessary to comply with applicable laws and regulations, respond to legal requests, and assist law enforcement agencies when required.
4. Our Disclosures of Personal Data
We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties. We only share your information in limited circumstances where it is necessary to provide, maintain, and improve our Services, or where required by law. Below are the categories of third parties with whom we may share your data.
4.1 Service Providers
We engage trusted third-party service providers to help us operate and support our Services. These include cloud storage, analytics, technical support services, and fraud prevention tools. These providers are authorized to access your data only to perform specific tasks on our behalf and are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it solely for the purposes we specify.
4.2 Payment Processors
To process in-app purchases, we rely on established payment processing partners (such as Google Play). These processors collect and process your payment details solely for the purpose of completing purchases and managing billing, and we do not store your full payment card information.
4.3 Third-Party SDKs
Our App integrates third-party software development kits to enable key features, analyze usage, and improve performance. These SDKs may collect device information and usage data as described in their respective privacy policies. We encourage you to review their policies for more details.
4.4 Legal and Regulatory Disclosures
We may disclose your information when required by applicable law, legal process, or governmental request. This includes responding to court orders, subpoenas, or lawful requests from law enforcement agencies. We may also share data to enforce our Terms of Service, protect the rights or safety of our users, or detect and prevent fraud and other illegal activities.
4.5 Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar corporate transaction, your personal data may be transferred as part of the business. In such cases, we will take reasonable steps to ensure your information continues to be protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy or equivalent standards, and we will notify you of any material changes.
5. Data Protection
Protecting your personal data is a priority for us. We implement reasonable and reliable security measures to safeguard your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
5.1 Protective Measures
We adopt a range of security practices to protect your data, including:
• Encrypted Transmission: We use encryption protocols (such as HTTPS/TLS) to secure data transmission.
• Access Control: We restrict access to personal data to authorized personnel only, and enforce permission controls to ensure that each staff member can only access the data necessary for their specific role.
• Security Monitoring: We conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and system audits to identify and address potential risks.
• Data Minimization and Retention: We collect only the data necessary for the purposes described in this Policy and retain it only as long as required to provide the Services or comply with legal obligations.
5.2 Your Responsibility
You also play an important role in protecting your data. We recommend that you use a strong, unique password for your account and never share it with anyone. If you suspect that your account has been compromised, please change your password immediately and contact us.
5.3 Our Commitment to Security
While we implement reasonable security measures to protect your data, no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security. We take this reality seriously and are committed to continuously improving our security practices and responding promptly to any incidents.
6. Data Transfer and Retention
6.1 Data Storage Location
The personal data we collect may be stored and processed on servers located in countries where we or our service providers operate. While we primarily store data in Hong Kong, we may also transfer your data to other jurisdictions as necessary to provide the Services.
6.2 International Data Transfers
When we transfer your personal data across borders, we take appropriate measures to ensure your information remains protected in accordance with applicable privacy laws. These measures may include entering into data transfer agreements based on standard contractual clauses approved by relevant regulatory authorities, or relying on adequacy decisions where available. By using our Services, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your jurisdiction, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
6.3 Data Retention
We retain your personal data only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, or as required by law. When you delete your account, we will securely delete or anonymize your data within a reasonable timeframe, unless we are legally required to retain certain information for compliance or fraud prevention purposes.
6.4 Data Deletion
You may request to delete your account and associated personal data at any time. To do so, please follow these steps within the App:
• Go to Settings > Account Settings > Delete Account
• Confirm your request for permanent deletion
Once you confirm, your account and all associated personal data will be permanently deleted and cannot be restored. Please note that certain information may be retained for a limited period where necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, or enforce our Terms of Service.
If you need assistance with the deletion process, please contact us at: longtianli37@gmail.com
7. Age Restriction and Child Protection
7.1 Minimum Age Requirement (18+)
ChatMate is an adult-only service. Our Services are not directed to, and are not intended for access or use by, any person under the age of 18. To create an account you must be at least 18 years old (or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, if higher). If you are under 18, you must not use our Services, register an account, upload any content, make any purchase, or provide us with any personal information.
7.2 Age Assurance and Verification
Because we cannot deliver a safe adult environment without knowing our users' age, we take active steps to verify and monitor eligibility:
• Registration Check: At sign-up we request your date of birth and block registration where the stated age is under 18.
• Ongoing Detection: We combine device- and account-level signals, behavioural and linguistic indicators, content analysis, automated age-estimation tools, and user reports to detect accounts that may belong to a minor.
• Identity Misrepresentation Prohibited: Providing a false date of birth, using another person's identity, documents or payment method, or assisting a minor in creating or accessing an account is a material breach of this Policy and our Terms of Service, and will result in immediate account termination.
• Unverified Accounts: Where we cannot reasonably establish that a user meets the minimum age, we may suspend the account, restrict access to age-restricted features, or terminate it. We may refuse or revoke access without prior notice where a child-safety risk is reasonably suspected.
7.3 No Knowing Collection of Children's Personal Data
We do not knowingly collect, use, disclose, or retain personal data from anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly allow minors to create profiles, upload content, participate in interactive features, or make purchases. We do not serve behaviourally targeted advertising to, and we do not sell or share for cross-context behavioural advertising, any personal data that we know or reasonably believe relates to a person under 18.
7.4 If We Learn That a Minor Has Provided Data to Us
If we discover, or are notified, that a person under 18 has registered for or used the Services, we will take the following actions immediately upon verification of the minor status — without undue delay, and in any event on the same day:
• Immediately deactivate the account and block access to the Services;
• Delete or irreversibly anonymise the personal data collected from that account — including profile details, user-generated content, and related chat metadata — unless retention is required by law or is necessary for a child-safety investigation;
• Cancel any active subscription and refund unused paid features where required by applicable law or by the policies of the relevant app store;
• Retain only the minimum records necessary for reporting and for preventing re-registration, and block the associated email address, phone number, and device identifiers from registering again;
• Where the account involved suspected abuse or exploitation, preserve the relevant evidence and report it to the competent authorities as described in Section 7.7.
7.5 Rights of Parents and Legal Guardians
Parents and legal guardians may contact us at longtianli37@gmail.com to: (i) confirm whether we hold personal data relating to their child; (ii) request a copy of that data; (iii) request its correction or deletion; and (iv) withdraw any consent given on the child's behalf. We will respond within 30 days of verifying the request (or sooner where required by law). To protect children's privacy, we may ask for reasonable evidence both of your relationship to the child and of the child's account; we will never ask you for the child's password.
7.6 Zero Tolerance for Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE)
We maintain an absolute zero-tolerance policy toward any content or behaviour that sexualises, exploits, abuses, grooms, extorts, traffics, or otherwise endangers a minor. For the purposes of this Policy, CSAE includes child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form — photographic, video, audio, textual, illustrated, animated, computer-generated or AI-generated — as well as grooming, sexualised role-play involving minors, sextortion, and the commercial sexual exploitation or trafficking of a minor. Producing, requesting, seeking, uploading, sharing, linking to, storing, promoting, or failing to report such content is prohibited in all circumstances, regardless of any claim of artistic, educational, or fictional purpose, and regardless of the jurisdiction from which the content originated.
7.7 Detection, Enforcement, and Reporting to Authorities
To uphold this commitment, we implement the following measures:
• Detection and Monitoring: We use automated detection tools (including hash-matching and image classification), keyword and behavioural risk signals, and trained human reviewers to identify and remove content that violates our child-protection standards, and we continually update these systems against emerging tactics such as concealed CSAM and new grooming patterns.
• Content Removal: Verified violating content is removed immediately and permanently, and copies are preserved only as evidence for law enforcement.
• Account and Device Actions: Upon verification of any violation involving a minor, we will immediately and permanently terminate the associated account, block associated device identifiers, phone numbers and payment methods, delete the offending content, and take technical steps to prevent re-registration. Such terminations are not subject to appeal.
• Reporting to Authorities: We report apparent CSAM and CSAE, together with the associated account data, identifiers and metadata, to the relevant law enforcement and child-protection authorities as required or permitted by applicable law — including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and regional hotlines. Where the law permits, we do so without prior notice to the user concerned.
• Evidence Preservation: We preserve relevant records, including the offending content, account and device identifiers, IP logs, and timestamps, for at least one year (or longer where required by law) to support investigations and prosecutions.
7.8 How to Report a Child Safety Concern
If you believe a minor has provided personal data to us, or if you encounter any content or behaviour that sexualises, exploits, abuses, grooms, extorts, or endangers a child — including any form of CSAE — please report it to us immediately through any of the following channels:
• Child Safety Email (monitored with priority, 24 hours a day): longtianli37@gmail.com
• In-App Reporting: Use the "Report" function on the relevant profile, message, or content and select the child-safety category.
• Postal Mail: Silver Ring Intelligence Limited, Rm 60 3/F East Sun Industrial Centre Block A, 16 Shing Yip Street, Kwun Tong, Kowloon, Hong Kong.
You do not need to be a user of ChatMate to submit a report, and reports may be made anonymously. We acknowledge every child-safety report within 24 hours, take interim protective measures (such as content removal or account suspension) while we investigate, and aim to complete our review within 72 hours. We treat all reports confidentially, and we will never retaliate against anyone who reports a concern in good faith. If a child is in immediate danger, please also contact your local emergency services or law enforcement directly.
7.9 Children's Privacy Policy
Our child-protection and children's-data practices are set out in greater detail in our Children's Privacy Policy (Child Safety Policy), which forms an integral part of this Privacy Policy and applies to all users, content, and interactions on the platform. Where that policy and this Privacy Policy differ in relation to a minor, the provision that is more protective of the child prevails.
7.10 Legal Frameworks We Follow
Depending on where our users are located, our child-protection practices are designed to be consistent with, among others: the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and applicable U.S. state child-safety laws; Article 8 of the EU GDPR and the UK GDPR, and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code; the minor-protection provisions of the EU Digital Services Act; Australia's Online Safety Act 2021 and the applicable industry codes; and the Google Play Child Safety Standards, including the requirement to provide an in-app mechanism for reporting CSAE. Where local law sets a higher age of digital consent or imposes stricter obligations, we apply that higher standard.
8. Your Rights and Choices
We respect your privacy and want you to be in control of your personal data. Depending on your jurisdiction and applicable data protection laws, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
• Right of Access: You have the right to request information about whether we are processing your personal data and to obtain a copy of that data.
• Right to Rectification: If you believe that any information we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to request that we correct or update it.
• Right to Deletion: You may request that we delete your personal data, subject to certain legal exceptions (such as fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or legal compliance obligations).
• Right to Data Portability: You have the right to request a copy of your personal data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format, and to have it transmitted to another service provider where technically feasible.
• Right to Restrict or Object to Processing: You may request that we restrict or cease the processing of your personal data under certain circumstances.
• Right to Withdraw Consent: If we process your personal data based on your consent, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawal will not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.
• Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your privacy rights. This means we will not deny you services, charge different prices, or provide a lower level of service simply because you have made a privacy-related request.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at: longtianli37@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request to protect your privacy and security. Please note that these rights may not be absolute and are subject to applicable legal exceptions.
9. Privacy Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, services, or applicable laws. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App, via email, or by other appropriate means before the changes take effect, so that you have time to review them.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy will indicate when the most recent changes were made. By continuing to use our Services after the updated policy becomes effective, you acknowledge and agree to the revised terms. If you do not agree with the changes, please stop using the Services.
10. Contact Us
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or our data handling practices, please contact us at: longtianli37@gmail.com.
If you need assistance with using the App or have any technical inquiries, you may also reach out to us through our in-app customer support.
